Christmas market in FÜRSTENBERG

Christmas market 2020 cancelled due to corona situation

Unfortunately, the popular Christmas market at FÜRSTENBERG Castle has to be cancelled this year. As in many other communities before, the lack of planning security and the focus on protecting the health of visitors, exhibitors and employees are presenting the porcelain manufactory with incalculable difficulties.

"We have not made the decision easy, but the safety and health of all those involved are our top priority," says Stephanie Saalfeld, Managing Director of Porzellanmanufaktur FÜRSTENBERG, explaining the decision to cancel the Christmas market. She continues: "Especially against the background of the current increase in the number of infections, we cannot foresee how the pandemic will develop in the autumn and winter months. We see in other countries that the virus is unpredictable and even apparent certainty can quickly turn into the opposite. As events in particular are always turning into superspreader events, we do not want to take this health risk for visitors, exhibitors and our employees".

Besides health protection, the reasons for the cancellation are also the lack of planning security for organisers and exhibitors. The Christmas market at FÜRSTENBERG Castle is sometimes planned up to a year in advance. "Waiting to see how the corona situation develops is unfortunately not possible for us. Especially now in the summer months we are usually in the middle of the preparations for the Christmas market. Cancelling the event at short notice - after months of planning, preparation and financial investment - is neither fair for the exhibitors, who then have no alternative, nor for all the other parties involved," says Stephanie Saalfeld explaining the background.

For more than 20 years, the Christmas market in the MUSEUM SCHLOSS FÜRSTENBERG and in the festively decorated and illuminated castle courtyard has been attracting visitors from near and far to Fürstenberg on a whole weekend in the pre-Christmas period. The cancellation of the popular traditional event was intensively discussed internally and finally decided with great regret: "We would like visitors to the Christmas market to have a carefree stay with us. This security cannot be guaranteed against the background of the constantly changing pandemic," summarises Stephanie Saalfeld. But FÜRSTENBERG, Germany's second oldest porcelain manufactory, also knows that difficult times are followed by positive years. For this reason, the teams at the porcelain manufactory and MUSEUM SCHLOSS FÜRSTENBERG are concentrating on smaller projects and exhibitions this year, which can be implemented with the necessary distances and safety, as well as planning for an eventful 2021. Schloss FÜRSTENBERG will therefore always be worth a visit in the coming months and will offer an exciting programme for families, porcelain connoisseurs and design lovers. Offers and events will be announced in good time on our website.

You would like to be an exhibitor at our Christmas market next year?

Then we are looking forward to your written application - if possible by e-mail - with photos of your products and your exhibition stand. We also need information about where you would like to exhibit (in the castle: here only arts and crafts, castle courtyard: with pagoda, Christmas market hut or open space).
